Prevent duty course aims to educate about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism. Prevent is part of CONTEST, the Government’s counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism and violent extremism.

From 1 July 2015, all schools, registered early years childcare providers, and registered later years childcare providers (referred to as ‘childcare providers’ in this advice) are required to have “due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism” in the exercise of their functions under section 26 of the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. This is referred to as the Prevent duty. It is applicable to a wide range of public-facing organisations. The statutory guidance must be followed by bodies to which the duty applies.
